MILAN, ITALY - In a packed saleroom and with 40 telephones connected with Italian and foreign collectors 4 times applauses interrupted the auction: for Sironi, Scarpitta, Manzoni and at the end of the last session to underline a very successful event. 100% sold for the sophisticated Verheyen Collection coming from Belgium which registered world auction records for Gűnther Uecker’s “Spirale” (ˆ 288.000) and for “Merda d’artista n. 018” by Piero Manzoni (ˆ 120.000).

An astonishing price was fetched by a small (cm. 30x40) 1958 “Achrome” by Manzoni - a gift from the artist to his friend and colleague, Jef Verheyen: from an estimate of ˆ 150.000-200.000 to an European private collector for ˆ 988.200.

Stefano Moreni, responsible of the sale and auctioneer, commented: “Very high prices for Conceptual Art, Arte Povera, Transavanguardia, Gruppo Zero and Cynetic Art have been registered.
