Sotheby's Indian Sale Realizes GBP2.8 MillionSource: ArtDaily (www.artdaily.org)![]() Sakti Burman (B. 1935), Village Enchanté, oil on canvas, 1980, Record for the Artist. Commenting on today’s sale, Zara Porter Hill, International Head of Modern and Contemporary Indian Art, said: “In an increasingly discerning market we are encouraged by the continued strength of the contemporary Indian art market. Works with good provenance by the modern Indian artists also performed particularly well in today’s sale, for example, Red Balloon by Bikash Bhattacharjee and Village Enchante by Sakti Burman, which both achieved records for the artists at auction and were aggressively sought after by collectors. Works by artists that infrequently appear at auction also performed very well, such as Unidentified Soldier by Broota, which more than tripled its pre-sale high estimate. The results also demonstrate that the market for miniatures remains consistent.” |
