LONDON - Christie’s announced the forthcoming auction of works from the collections of James Perkins and Andrew Lamberty. The sale, AYNHOE PARK - A Modern Grand Tour, will feature a cornucopia of fascinating works of art and curiosities. The sale comprises important 20th century and contemporary design including works by Tony Duquette, Kam Tin and Fornasetti as well as photographs by Bob Carlos Clarke, juxtaposed with monumental classical plaster casts, period furniture, and even a steel rocketship as featured in Dan Dare. All items to be offered will be on public view within the dramatic surroundings at Aynhoe Park, Oxfordshire from Friday, 5 October until the afternoon of Monday, 8 October; the auction will take place at Christie’s South Kensington saleroom on Tuesday, 9 October 2012 at 10.30am.

Adrian Hume-Sayer, Specialist and Head of Sale, Christie’s commented: “We are delighted to be working with both James and Andrew to stage this unique and exiting sale. It is impossible not to be charmed by Aynhoe Park’s setting and architectural character, particularly as James’ remarkable collection so perfectly inhabits Sir John Soane’s dramatic interiors. A pair of colossal Greek centaurs from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum, New York greet visitors in the pillared hall, setting the tone for what is to be found beyond. When Soane remodelled the house in 1800-01, he could scarcely have envisaged that the spaces he created would one day host such a dynamic yet fitting collection.”James Perkins, Collector and Owner of Aynhoe Park commented: “I began collecting as a teenager, and have since been acquiring objects and works of art from sales around the world, rarely able to return home without an interesting addition to my collection. I will happily admit to being a compulsive collector, over the years my collection has grown and evolved and it is now time to allow new pieces to take centre stage at Aynhoe Park. Through Christie’s, I look forward to sharing my passion with other international collectors, as well as welcoming many to enjoy my collection in its setting here at Aynhoe Park.”

Andrew Lamberty, Collector and Dealer in Modern Design commented: “James and I are great friends, we share a love of beautiful and luxurious objects, and together we have watched our collections grow. The dramatic backdrop provided by James’ home, Aynhoe Park is the perfect stage to present our combined collections for sale, and as market leader we believe Christie’s is the perfect partner and location for the auction.”
