Osman Hamdi Bey Painting Fetches $3.5 Million

This undated file picture shows "The Turtle Trainer", an enigmatic 1906 painting by Ottoman artist Osman Hamdi Bey, fetched five trillion Turkish lira (3.5 million dollars, 2.64 million euros) at an auction in Istanbul 12 December 2004, a record for a painting by a Turkish artist. The 1906 painting will go on display at Istanbul's new Pera Museum to be inaugurated June 2005.

Manhattan painter, writer and performance artist Emilio Cruz, 66, died due pancreatic cancer, reported The New York Times. He was born Emilio Antonio Cruz Jr. in the Bronx on March 15, 1938. He studied art at the Art Students League and the New School for Social Research in New York. He also studied at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and the Seong Moy School of Painting and Graphics in Provincetown, Mass.
The Zabriskie Gallery in New York held his first solo exhibition in 1963. He later had many exhibitions in the United States and in other countries. His latest exhibition took place at the Alitash Kebede Gallery in Los Angeles. It was titled "I Am Food I Eat the Eater of Food."
